~ in germany ~

I’ve been up for 30 hours. 10 hour flight. 1 hour train journey. 9 hours time difference. My good friend P. picked me up at the train station and we had tea with my mother. My brother and his family, who do not live in Cologne, came over for the afternoon and it was lovely to see my nephews. Easy times with friends and family, that’s what I treasure about my visits to my home town. Because I am only here for a couple of days I am focusing mostly on my family and spending time in my mother’s apartment. This is where I grew up and it is the last time that I will stay here as my mother is moving out next year, after having lived here for 35 years. I am feeling a little nostalgic but I am excited for my mother as she is hoping to get into a brand new 55+ development not far from here.
Well, I am fading fast, I can barely keep my eyes open. So as always I will leave with a few images for now.
My old bedroom window. This is the view I grew up with. It’s very typical for German urban living.
Love these cute cups that I found in my mother’s cupboard.
Germany greeted me with gray November skies. Although I was very tired
after my long flight I was happy to continue my journey by train. I love German
trains. They are fast, very quiet and seemingly glide through the countryside.
Some of the men in my life. My brother. My friend P. My lovely little rascal nephews.
I hope you have a wonderful time on your visit home. Beautiful images.
Glad to hear you arrived safe and sound. Can only concur with you about the trains here. Even after being here over 27 years (yeeks!), I still love train travel more than any other form. How did you manage to capture all that subtle colour in the grey weather? Have fun. Take care. Don’t forget to sleep!
Have a wonderful visit and safe return. More photos, please. They are beautiful.
I am in love with that first image of yours. Hope you have a wonderful trip.
